The fact that the president can fire the man in charge of investigating him and now share classified intelligence with Russian Federation without permission (also something Trump's team first denied but then Trump tweeted defending his decision), is certainly troubling. Yet U.S. allies and some members of Congress have expressed alarm.
Russian President Vladimir Putin listens to a question at a joint news conference with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni at the Bocharov Ruchei state residence in Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. He dismissed outrage over Trump's disclosures as USA politicians whipping up "anti-Russian sentiment".
The Watergate scandal was arguably the biggest in US political history, and stemmed from a burglary of the Democrat National Committee offices in the Watergate complex in Washington in 1972. Was this also one of the three occasions Trump claims Comey said he was not under investigation?
Earlier Wednesday, Trump gave no indication of the announcement to come in a commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy.
The FBI's investigation is broader than just Flynn, and it's possible McCabe was referring to the overall probe, the person said. Trump also stirred controversy with a visit from Russia's foreign minister and ambassador to the US on Wednesday, and reversed his White House's story regarding his decision to fire Comey while in an interview with Lester Holt for "NBC Nightly News" Thursday.
Republican Jason Chaffetz of Utah, chairman of the oversight panel, said Mueller was a "great selection. It wouldn't be criminal obstruction unless he also said 'you'll have to lay off or else I'll fire you.' Remember, we have separation of powers and the president, as the head of the executive branch, has the power to fire and direct his subordinates".
The revelation prompted questions about whether Trump obstructed justice with his request. "The Judiciary Committee is the appropriate place to hold a hearing and get to the bottom of exactly what was said and by whom".

"At the same time, I do think that the white house could have handled some of these situations much better".
The New York Times first, then The Washington Post and other outlets have reported that Trump had asked Comey in a February meeting not to pursue the Flynn probe and pursue reporters in leak cases instead.
The conversation occurred weeks after the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Flynn regarding his contacts with the Russian Federation ambassador to the United States and after the acting attorney general, Sally Yates, warned the White House that Flynn had misled them about those conversations and could be vulnerable to blackmail.
Trump is preparing to leave town Friday on his first foreign trip, and aides have been hopeful the journey will be a chance for the administration to get back on track after weeks of chaos and distractions.
Trump fired Comey, not yet four years into his 10-year term, last week and admitted later he was thinking about the Russian Federation investigation when he made the decision.
Ryan's comments after a closed-door meeting of House Republicans came as lawmakers grappled with a series of damaging developments out of the White House over the past week.
Now many are drawing parallels between All the President's Men and President Trump's version of From Russia With Love. Comey, who was known to keep a paper trail of sensitive meetings, chronicled the president's request in a memo he produced soon after the conversation, according to a Comey associate who reviewed the document and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity. "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", Trump allegedly told Comey.
The newspaper said Comey was in the Oval Office that day with other national security officials for a terrorism threat briefing.
