Durant, Curry Again Lead Warriors To Rout Of Cavs

Posted June 08, 2017

It was his first career postseason triple-double and the best Finals game of his career.

Durant and Curry had 15 points apiece for the Warriors in the half.

Durant became only the third player in NBA history to score 25 points in his first seven NBA Finals appearances, joining Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal. "And scoring the basketball for Kyrie's not a big deal, so he'll get on track as far as scoring the basketball".

Contrary to speculation, Lue said J.R. Smith will start at guard and Iman Shumpert will come off the bench.

Curry listened and had a spectacular night to lead Golden State to a 2-0 NBA Finals advantage with Sunday's 132-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Mike Brown took over the coaching duties in Kerr's absence.

"We're going to go home and watch the film to see ways we can be better", he said in the Cavaliers locker room after the game. But he wanted to remain with a smaller lineup, pushing the pace and forcing Cleveland into matchup issues. That's a little different than the ball finding its way to Harrison Barnes. But Durant is a 7-foot pterodactyl, who has only gained strength and defensive guile during his first decade in the league. "I thought he was fantastic".

James said that despite losing by 19 points, his team played better that in the first meeting.

Durant delivered his first highlight sequence midway through the first quarter. He swatted away the ball fromseveral defenders, including James.

It was excellent defense on James's part.

"Just like in Game 1, many of James" teammates were missing in action. "And we're going to need to play better to win on the road". I'll exude as much confidence in my guys as much as I can in order to get what I need out of them. "I can see that he really takes a lot of pride in that".

The game's defining sequence came in the third quarter when Curry used a dazzling display of dribbling to dart past the much-bigger James and finish with a layup off the glass. Kerr committed his future to the Golden State Warriors. "Now we've got go back there, this is where the series changed a year ago".

Then Durant stopped for a moment and, in celebration, yelled in Love's direction.

"I don't know what you do with him".

But Durant wasn't done. With the Warriors doubling hard, it has put the burden on Irving to break the pressure with his playmaking, an area that is not his forte - and it shows.

Sure, Irving was even worse to start the 2016 Finals through the first two games (36 points on 12-for-36 shooting, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 blocks, 6 steals) and exploded with 30 points in Game 3 as the Cavs began their comeback. James is someone, perhaps the only someone, against whom he measures himself. That one person on the outside or family member or whatever is not good for our team. "I just like who he is as a person, and throughout the course of the playoffs I've checked on him and we text and talk". That was a huge play for us.

"The whole pregame process was all the same tonight, it was just a matter of him showing up on the bench and giving us that energy", Curry said.

And they still got clobbered as Stephen Curry went off for a triple-double, Kevin Durant scored 33 points, Klay Thompson added 22. Add his three steals and Durant delivered a stat-line never seen in National Basketball Association history.
