Coutinho out of Liverpool squad to face Man City

A 5-0 City victory courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero, and braces from both Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane was soured by a nasty injury suffered by goalkeeper Ederson, following a collision with Reds winger Sadio Mane.

Mane could miss matches against Burnley and Leicester City, whom the Reds play twice in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, and Liverpool will be unhappy at failing to take their chances early on.

The German took issue with Mane's red card, which came after the forward's boot connected with City goalkeeper Ederson's face as the pair challenged for a bouncing ball late in the first half. City are level on points with second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League table after winning two and drawing one of their three games to date.

"I don't get why they made Virgil van Dijk their number one target and then when they couldn't get him, say that they're not interested in a central defender".

It's the biggest game of the season so far today for Manchester City against a side who have provided the Blues with many problems in recent years, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. But after the sending off after they didn't seem to have any relation to each other, they were all over the joint.

Jamie Carrager, however, believed it was the right call: "It's a red card".

The England international is serving a suspension.

'But what struck me more about De Bruyne's display was how often he won the ball back for City to set up attacks'. He loves to be here with us, so we're a lucky team, a lucky club to have Kevin with us.

City boss Pep Guardiola will be without captain Vincent Kompany heading into the clash after an injury picked up over the international break.

Klopp also insisted he had no issue with Coutinho as he hopes to move on from the whole saga.

Nevertheless, he feels the former Chelsea and Wolfsburg player is on a different level when it comes to spying gaps in an opposition defence.

"At the moment, we need to be ready all the time and that means we need more players".

Philippe Coutinho will be in the squad when we take on Sevilla next Wednesday.

"It makes a difference - that's five or six points extra and they are losing those points so then you are closer together".
