"Arrival of global cricket players in the country to play against Pakistan a three-match Twenty20 (T20) series is outcome of extraordinary efforts that were made to revive worldwide cricket", Sethi had then said.

It was only during the 2017 PSL final that people in this cricket-starved country saw such euphoria.

He said that efforts of security agencies of Pakistan for improving law and order situation in the country is laudable. He played in the 2008 Asia Cup and was part of the Pakistan squad when Zimbabwe toured the country in 2015. The stadium and team hotel are like fortresses.

The lapses in security in 2009 that could easily have been avoided resulted in Pakistan's exclusion as a venue for global cricket.

Pakistan have won seven of their last eight T20I games, including series wins against England and the West Indies. The World XI players are indeed excited.

Although the wicketkeeper-batsman admitted that his side had more youngsters, he said it was a great opportunity for them to perform in front of the home crowds which will be a great boost for them.

Tahir revealed that his feedback on security situation in Pakistan helped. For someone like Grant Elliott it's unimaginable because in New Zealand news such as theft of a dog makes the headlines. "I am certainly not depending on any one player and all of them will be required to play a part if we are to win the series", he said.

"So look I can't see any problems, what I see and what I be hearing has positive vibe about this thing".

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was comforted by the security arrangements in agreeing to lead the World XI for its breakthrough cricket tour of Pakistan. They had to stand in long queues from early in the morning to scorching afternoon heat for a match ticket.

"We are celebrating the return of worldwide cricket to Pakistan".

No major nation has toured Pakistan since 2009 after a bus carrying the Sri Lankan team was sacked upon by 12 gunmen near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Ramiz Raja, another former Pakistan test cricketer and now television commentator, also celebrated the return of global cricket at home. The second edition of this Twenty20 League saw the final of the tournament being held successfully in Lahore. Amir's wife is expecting any time and the affectionate husband wants to be with the to-bemother.

Since then the country has only played minor worldwide matches on home soil against Zimbabwe, Kenya and Afghanistan. But Amir is not the only one missing.

"Everyone is here and they realize that they are part of a greater cause, and they have accepted they are part of something more important than just themselves", Sammy added on Saturday in Dubai where the World XI players are assembled before flying to Lahore late Sunday night. "That's a fair question".

All this while, cricket's governing body, ICC, kept a tab on the proceedings in Pakistan and after several contemplations, decided that the time was right to resume cricket in the nation.
