Could iPhone X be watershed moment for wireless charging of electric cars?

Posted September 14, 2017

It is official. The new generation Apple iPhones will be called the 8, 8 Plus and the X. All three devices are equipped with the best hardwares around but it doesn't offer any improvements to the Apple ecosystem. You may have even seen or used a few of them dotted around establishments like McDonald's, Starbucks, and in some hotels.

In-car wireless charging mats or stands have been in cars since the 2013 Dodge Dart. Both new phones also support Qi wireless charging, for instance, which means that it can just be laid onto a special charging block or furniture and it will charge up just through that contact. Wireless charging and inductive charging is also often referred to as resonant charging, but they're not the same thing. "They didn't talk about the evolution of Apple beyond the iPhone and into artificial intelligence". The new iPhone 8 and 8 plus resemble the iPhone 7 line but have a glass back that allows for wireless charging.

The tech giant also introduced iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (in Silver, Space Grey and Rose Gold colours) that house wireless charging technology with an improved retina displays.

Case in point: Apple sold almost 212 million iPhones past year. I expect the current MacBook Pro design to eventually get cheaper, and the same will happen with the iPhone X. And if you're on a yearly phone installment plan, it should be easy enough to jump ship and get a redesigned iPhone when it meets your budget (I'm hoping that'll happen next year, but that might be naive).

Wireless charging uses electromagnetic fields to "transfer power from a transmitting source to a receiving device" to charge a battery and is based on the principle of magnetic resonance. All of which is very juicy information for those lucrative advertising profiles.

To replace either a headphone or the case Apple will charge you £69 - or $69 - for each item you need replaced, and it's the exact same fee for any out-of-warranty repairs or replacements due to accidental damage. So yes, you'll be investing quite a bit of money on this end if you're looking to step up your charging game.

Fast charging is one of those highly-requested features that iPhone users have been asking for years at this point.

Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of Solaris Asset Management in NY, said he was not anxious about the shipping date and liked the new phone's features, but also flagged a lack of surprises.

Cook also introduced the new Apple TV 4K, created to deliver a stunning cinematic experience at home. The headphones went on-sale in December 2016 following a two-month delay, and even nine months after launch, they're still hard to buy. The Rezence and PMA standards aren't out of the race yet, but it's certainly going to be an uphill battle from here to convince manufacturers to support their technology too.

iPhone 8 Plus features a 12 Megapixel Wide-angle and 12 Megapixel telephone lens rear camera with Quad LED True Tone flash and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It could be well on its way to ubiquity.
