Julius Peppers: Panthers defense 'best I've ever played on'

Posted September 21, 2017

"I know Zay takes it on himself", Bills head coach Sean McDermott said.

Coachspeak: "I feel the frustration out there".

In Buffalo's week one win over NY, the Jets were 4-for-14 on third down and had three 3-and-outs.

Cam Newton went to the medical tent for examination during the second half of Carolina's game against Buffalo on Sunday after taking a tough hit.

The Bills defense did it's job on Sunday holding the Panthers to just nine points in a 9-3 loss on Sunday. Olsen hasn't helped much in 2017, but he led the Panthers in receiving yards each of the past in each of the past three seasons (going over 1,000 yards in the past three), as Cam Newton's most reliable target.

McCoy now averages 1.76 yards before contact per rush and 1.7 yards after contact. McCoy had 9 yards on 12 carries and Taylor had 125 yards passing.

"This is a pass-happy football league, but the one thing you can't do is make offenses two-dimensional", Wilks said.

Whatever changes come, they won't include one at quarterback.

"Granted, Greg is an extremely key artery for our team, as well as this offense, but Ed (Dickson) is ready to blossom", Newton said.

Tyrod Taylor had an underwhelming performance as well.

The Bills had some deep shots that didn't work out, but the problems go beyond that. The reason it was so astonishing the Bills (1-1) stayed that close was because of a horrendous effort by the offense. Shepard signed with Carolina in March after spending the past four seasons with the NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (1-0): Newton only passed for 171 yards in the season opener, but he threw two touchdown passes as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2016 campaign.

The Bills performed so poorly in the first half against Carolina that offensive coordinator Rick Dennison acknowledged he didn't have an opportunity call some of the 15 plays he scripted for the Panthers.

"We're just trying to stack wins", Peppers said. "It wasn't just the wide receivers, it was everybody". Carolina's veteran linebacking corps led by Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly had a big game against the 49ers.

Carolina held the Bills to 176 yards of total offense. He is 144 rushing yards shy of beating that record and with one more rushing touchdown and one more overall touchdown, Stewart will be at par with Williams for second in franchise history for both the records.

Olsen's injury comes at a time when the Panthers needed him to be on the field the most.
