No. 7 Penn State Holds Off Iowa, 1-0

However, the Nittany Lions won this thing because of what quarterback Trace McSorley did on the last drive, steering his team 12 plays for 80 yards in 102 seconds. And it's fair to call it greatness now.

Before being honored on the field prior to the game, Greenway high-fived Hawkeye players as they entered the stadium. No other way to describe it. The New Jersey native was key to Iowa's upset win over MI last season, tallying 167 total yards against the Wolverines. The Nittany Lions maintained a small lead until Louis knocked down her 12th kill to give the Hawkeyes a 19-18 lead, forcing a timeout from Penn State. The Penn State running back tallied 368 all-purpose yards along with one touchdown.

NOTES: Penn State had scored 30-plus points in 10 straight games.

Iowa: No way the Hawkeyes have much of a chance unless QB Stanley plays very well.

Despite Iowa being undefeated and hosting the No. 4 team in the country on Saturday night, it doesn't look like Kinnick Stadium will be full. Barkley was unstoppable and Penn State's defense was brilliant.

Iowa soccer finally gets to conference play against Penn State tonight, after going nearly two weeks without a match.

Traditionally, a non-conference slate of Akron, Pitt, and Georgia State, is exactly what PSU is used to seeing early on, but in this day-and-age with the College Football Playoff, voters are looking for way more in their possible candidates for that final four. And they barely had enough points.

Penn State needs to keep doing what they are doing defensively.

Barkley was a one-man show at times.

The Maryland women's golf team will travel to University Park, Pa. this weekend to compete in the 41st annual Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State. This probably shouldn't have been as sweaty a situation in the fourth quarter as it turned out to be.

A 35-yard Akrum Wadley run had given Iowa the lead with 1:42 to play. A Saquon Barkley masterpiece. "The guy is special", Franklin said of Barkley. "We just didn't finish drives". But it somehow kept making plays at the most-vital times, kept making fourth-down stops or forcing field goal tries.

"Most importantly, we're getting turnovers and keeping people out of the end zone", Penn State coach James Franklin said. As we've seen with the high-powered Penn State offense, opposing teams need all the scoring they can get.

Smith played only a handful of snaps, none with defensive unit, in three years at Penn State prior to a 2016 game against Temple.

"This is one of those games that could happen like that", Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell told Sporting News.

"I think, as you guys know, each season stands alone", the coach said.

"Defensively, we're giving up some yards, but I think we're playing really good defense", Franklin said.

Expect this game to be run heavy. "We have done some good things in three weeks, now we really have to put things together and tighten stuff down, hopefully we can do that".

The offense doesn't have to change dramatically to be both, but it can't be this stubborn. As gritty as Penn State has proven to be, that's exactly the type of issue that ultimately catches up to even the most explosive offenses.
