Washington Redskins roll to 27-10 win over Oakland Raiders

Posted September 25, 2017

This was as dominant a game the Redskins have played under Gruden, perhaps back to another Sunday Night Football win previous year, that one the 42-24 win over the Green Bay Packers. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had no time to find receivers, and threw 2 interceptions.

Eleven plays later, quarterback Kirk Cousins connected with tight end Vernon Davis for a attractive 18-yard touchdown pass as the Redskins took a 14-0 lead they carried into halftime.

Even with its numerous setbacks - the majority of them drive-killing penalties - the offense continued to play a complete game, dominating in time of possession (the Redskins racked more than 38 minutes compared to the Raiders' 21) and feeding off the defense's continual quick stops. The Redskins did not allow a third down conversion, as the Raiders go 0-for-11. As always, I'll be along for the ride with you the whole way running the Get More Sports live blog.

Most of the Raiders players remained seated during the anthem after President Donald Trump criticized professional athletes Friday for not standing during the anthem as a form of protest. Cousins was 3 for 3 on the drive, including a 26-yard completion to tight end Vernon Davis on third down.

Carr finished 19 of 31 for 118 yards and a touchdown.

The Redskins turned two Carr interceptions into 14 first-half points.

In last week's win over the Rams, Thompson ran for a pair of scores.

The Oakland Raiders notably began the 2017-18 regular season with an unblemished 2-0 record, thanks to wins over both the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets.

The Raiders have long struggled covering tight ends, and made the veteran look like his old self, when he was dominant as a 49er.

Norman, Foster and Nicholson have shoulder injuries, Reed has chest and rib problems, while Kelley is dealing with injured rib cartilage. He also had six receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Best capitalizing off a turnover: Eight plays later, Kirk Cousins found Chris Thompson wide open in the flat for a 22-yard touchdown, Thompson's team-leading fourth score of the year. Washington also played a lot of zone to ensure good positioning for plays after the catch, limiting the Raiders' strength: yards after contact.
