Wilshere masterclass helps Arsenal to huge win over BATE Borisov

Meanwhile Granit Xhaka believes that if the supporters continue to get behind Arsenal the players will respond by becoming "a real force" on the pitch.

Jack Wilshere's performance against BATE Borisov has shown Arsenal fans just why they shouldn't give up on him.

With the Gunners well in control of a Europa League clash with BATE on Thursday, their England global forward had the chance to claim the matchball.

To see Willock and Nelson take their fledgling steps makes it enjoyable to watch and when they're bolstered by the kind of experience that can make the vital contributions - like Giroud's 100th Arsenal goal - it's hard not to feel somewhat reinvigorated watching the games.

France striker Giroud's milestone came from the penalty spot soon after halftime as Arsenal's experimental side had few problems against their accommodating hosts. He miskicked the ball directly to Walcott who deposited it into the corner. Rob Holding came close to adding another goal late on but hit the post with a half-volley from a corner. Game on with 20 minutes still left on the clock at 4-2. Maybe not. I felt good in the first half and start of the second and then fitness wise it started to go a bit towards the end. The north Londoners have six points from a possible six so far on the continent and had to show some mettle in their second group H match as Borisov pressed to reduce the arrears further.

In the 48th minute, referee Daniel Stefanski awarded Arsenal a soft penalty - apparently for a shirt pull on Mustafi from Stanislav Dragun, for which he was yellow carded.

Ospina could not stop Ivanic's effort.

The Belarusians piled forward and forced Arsenal stopper Ospina into a number of formulaic saves, interlaced by the Colombian's now signature erratic aerial decision making.

"(But) I hope that will not happen, and UEFA has always been very strong to deal with that".

He played well. Left wing-back isn't Ainsley Maitland-Niles' best position but he appeared more comfortable this evening.

"Obviously, I am an attacking player, so when you are an attacking player, you need to create goals and get goals - and that's the main thing for me".

Last league meeting between these two sides took place in 1982-83, but they played each other recently in FA CUP.
